//shrouded\\

by jaamil olawale kosoko

//shrouded\\ is an immersive dance performance and living sculpture that explores the body as an archive of memory, resistance, and transformation. Rooted in Black queer temporalities, the work delves into the embodied legacies of displacement and erasure, asking what it means to live with a history of imposed invisibility.

As performers slip between presence and absence, mourning and joy, figure and shadow, kosoko dares to ask what it means to choose to go unseen—in an age shaped by surveillance and spectacle. Part ceremony, part living archive, the work gathers both the living and the departed into a shared field of remembrance. It invites audiences to witness a communal act of remembering and reimagining.

//shrouded\\ integrates original poetry, dance, ritual, video art, and a full original live score featuring cello, guitar, percussion, and live DJing. Through slow, durational movement, the piece foregrounds the tensions between visibility and survival, mourning and becoming.

//shrouded\\ had in-development presentations at the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center in New York City and at Icebox Project Space, as part of Philadelphia’s Cannonball Festival, in April 2026.
